  • Why did I write this book?

Children and families are important to me. As a bilingual and EL educator, I’ve worked with hundreds of students and I began noticing that some children are thriving in school while other students are struggling. So I started wondering, “What are the strategies that parents can use to help their kids succeed in school?” and “What are the unique challenges that Hispanic parents face?”. As I searched for resources, I quickly realized that there are fewer resources written in Spanish to meet the needs of Hispanic families.

This is how the idea for my book was born about fifteen years ago. At the time, I was raising my children and teaching full-time, so it was impossible to begin a writing project. However, in 2022 I took the plunge and my writing journey began!

My mission is to provide helpful tips and high-quality resources to empower Hispanic parents as they navigate the U.S. elementary school system. As we know, success in school often leads to success in life! I hope that this parenting guide will enable families to nurture their children’s growth, learning and future success!

The García Family

I would like to introduce you to the García family. Just like thousands of Hispanic families, they have come to the United States with the hope of making a better future for their children. The parents, Luis and Silvia, are trying to understand the school system in the United States (USA). They want to help their children as much as possible, but at times it’s difficult for many reasons. Their precious children, Maya, Carlos and Olivia are currently attending an elementary school in their neighborhood. In this book, “School Tips for Hispanic Parents”, we will follow the García family’s steps and we’ll learn from their experiences.
